Officials identify five people killed in wrecks across three South Mississippi counties
Officials have identified five people killed in fatal wrecks in Hancock, Jackson and Pearl River counties over the weekend.
A Hancock County crash Friday night near mile marker 5 resulted in the deaths Arturo Delagarza, 22, of Texas, Alfredo Arjona, 23, of Texas, and Alejandro Almeida, 37, of Texas, according to a release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
The accident happened around 10:30 p.m.
Troopers say a white Ford 500 was traveling westbound when the vehicle left the road and ran into a median, before hitting a tree.
Two others, including the driver, suffered life-threatening injuries.
No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
In Jackson County, a pedestrian, identified Monday as 48-year-old Neal James Doss Jr., was hit and killed on Mississippi 63 near Fredrick Street around 5:20 a.m. Saturday.
Troopers say a 2017 Toyota Tacoma was traveling south when Doss walked into the path of the vehicle, according to the release.
Doss was pronounced dead at the scene.
In Pearl River County, motorcyclist Jason Wayne Poplin, 46, was killed Saturday morning while traveling south on Mississippi 43 when his bike collided with a 2001 Toyota 4Runner on Nellie Burks Road, MHP said.
