A vehicle plunged into Bayou La Croix Sunday morning.
The Bay St. Louis Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Marine Resources all responded to the scene at 7:41 a.m.
A photo submitted to the Sun Herald shows the vehicle completely submerged underneath the Bayou La Croix Bridge off Mississippi 603.
Bay St. Louis Police Chief Gary Ponthieux said the vehicle was driving southbound on 603 when it left the roadway and plunged into the bayou. He said the driver was the only occupant and escaped without injuries. He added the bridge and roadway were not damaged.
A wrecker removed the vehicle from the bayou, Ponthieux said, adding the accident was still under investigation.
A passerby told the Sun Herald traffic was diverted to one side of Mississippi 603 while tow trucks removed the vehicle from the water.
