Man dies in head-on collision on U.S. 90 in Hancock County

A 61-year-old Pearlington man died early Friday in a head-on collision that a state trooper says seriously injured the other driver.

The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.

The crash happened in an eastbound lane near Port Bienville about 3:40 a.m., Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Chase Elkins said.

A dense fog advisory was in effect overnight.

Initial investigation indicates he was westbound on U.S. 90 in a 2000 GMC Sierra when the vehicle crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane, Elkins said.

The GMC struck a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 55-year-old man from Kiln, he said.

On land or sea, dense fog makes travel difficult on Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The driver of the GMC died at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet suffered serious injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital at Gulfport.

Elkins said both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The crash remains under investigation.

Elkins said more information will be released as the investigation continues.
