Bay St. Louis Deputy Fire Chief Ronald Avery said investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire Thursday afternoon at a Manor House apartment in the city’s Old Town district.

Avery said the fire happened at about 4:50 p.m. in the apartment building just off DeMontluzin Street. He said the fire, which started small in the kitchen, caused heavy damage to the apartment of origin as well as some smoke damage to some surrounding apartments.

“There were no injuries in the fire and we got it contained pretty quickly,” he said.

Avery said two dogs died as a result of the fire.
