What caused a traffic jam in Kiln on Saturday?

It happens every single year in Kiln, and it’s one of the few times residents ever have to sit through a traffic jam, not counting the after-school traffic in front of Dolly’s Quick Stop on Mississippi 603.

But you won’t hear any Hancock County folks complaining about the road closures, for most of them sit through the jam in the parking lot of Dolly’s or the Broke Spoke to watch the commotion go by.

The Christmas horse parade trotted through the quaint town Saturday, and it took residents and onlookers back in time when horses and carriages ruled the roads, not cars and sport-utility vehicles.

Santa and Mrs. Claus even made an appearance in a horse-drawn carriage. The parade ended at the VFW post in Kiln, where Santa and his wife hosted a photo shoot for children who watched the parade.

The event is an iconic tradition in Kiln, former home of football star Brett Favre.
