Christmas decorations make the season bright

It's the thing that makes Christmas a bit different from all the other holidays.

Lights.

Every year across South Mississippi, residents dress up their homes with lights and other decorations to share their holiday spirit.

Displays run the gamut from simple to impressively complex.

Families seeking to enjoy those lights could drive almost anywhere and find something, but the discerning would gravitate toward more upscale neighborhoods.

Some even decorate in themes, such as the homes along Rue Palafox in Biloxi that decorate exclusively in white lights.

A more-complex approach can be found on Greenwell Circle in Woolmarket. The small yard is packed with a large array of lights that dance in concert with music that can be heard on your car radio.

In Moss Point, you can tour through the city's historic district in the neighborhoods along Dantzler Street and Belleview Avenue where residents have been encouraged to decorate. In Bay St. Louis, the oak trees are decorated in the Depot District.

This year, Gulfport has upped the ante in public displays with its Jones Park wonderland, outpacing Biloxi's more traditional Town Green display.

But it's not how big it is, it's how it makes you feel inside.
