Tornado watch issued, flash flood watch continues for South Mississippi

A tornado watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties until 3:00 today.

According to NWS, the threat for severe weather will be greatest this evening for the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

A small craft advisory has been issued with gale force winds possible.

Much of South Mississippi, including Pearl River, Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties, and parts of Louisiana remain under a flash flood watch until 6 p.m. today.

Three to five inches of rain is expected across the area with a developing surface low over the western Gulf of Mexico. Higher amounts of rain are possible in some areas, which may cause flash flooding.
