A 17-year-old girl is in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle as she tried to walk across U.S. 49 on Thursday night.
The girl was crossing from the west side of the highway when she was struck by a southbound 1989 Ford Explorer. Police said it happened at about 5:48 p.m. in the 14000 block. The area is just south of South Swan Road.
The girl was taken to Garden Park Medical Center and then was transported to Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, said James Griffin, a public information officer for the Gulfport Police Department.
The driver, a Gulfport resident, has not been charged with any violations.
