People who live in the Deep South aren’t used to extended days of below-freezing temperatures.

And for homeless communities, a hard freeze could be life-threatening for those who can’t make it to a cold-weather shelter or find access to heat.

So when a man stopped his car Saturday to help out another in need, a passerby also paused to record the exchange.

Briana Rose DiGiorgio saw a man take off his coat and give it to a homeless man trying to stay warm near a red light in Birmingham.

The Good Samaritan quietly told the homeless man he’d be back soon with food, too.

“I was in tears,” DiGiorgio posted on Facebook. “This is the kind of people we need more of in this world.”

Her video has garnered more than 827,000 views.

Temperatures will be well below freezing in South Mississippi Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. Cold weather shelters are open.
