A committee investigating the possible impeachment of Gov. Robert Bentley’s has denied the governor’s requests to suspend proceeding.
House Judiciary Chairman Mike Jones on Wednesday denied the governor’s requests and says the probe is moving forward.
The governor asked for the investigation to halt until lawmakers clarify their concerns. The notice was accompanied by an Aug. 25 letter from the committee’s special counsel saying the concerns had been well-publicized.
Twenty-three lawmakers signed impeachment articles after Bentley’s former law enforcement secretary accused him of having an affair with a staffer and interfering with law enforcement business.
