Former St. Andrew’s Cathedral organist John Paul and Shawn Leopard will perform Sunday at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Long Beach.

An instrument that was popular during the Renaissance — and by The Beatles — will be the subject of a Sunday concert in Long Beach.

“Music From Two Harpsichords,” featuring John Paul and Shawn Leopard, will be at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church beginning at 4:30 p.m.

“John Paul is the retired organist from St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Jackson,” the Rev. Betsy Baumgarten said. “He and his partner, Shawn Leopard, recently moved to the Coast and he wants to get more involved with his music ministry down here.”

Baumgarten said Paul had been hosting a series of concerts in Jackson and he wanted to continue the tradition on the Coast.

“He put on this specific concert in Jackson in June,” she said. “Once he moved here, he decided to re-create the show at St. Patrick’s.”

She said she hopes the concert is one of many at St. Patrick;s.

“We plan to do a music series maybe three times a year with John Paul,” she said. “I’m sure John would be willing to do more, so we’ll see how it goes.”

A reception is set for 4 p.m.

“Come and have some wine and food and hear some great music,” she said. “We also will be providing child care, so parents can drop of their kids and enjoy the show.”
