Did you grab a great photo of the Gulf? A masterpiece featuring a marsh? How about a stunning shot of fresh seafood?

If so, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources wants to hear from you. The state agency is preparing for its 2017 calendar by holding a photo contest to fill it and showcase the beauty of all aspects of the Coast’s marine world.

“The Mississippi Coast has many talented photographers, both professional and amateur, and we want to be able to showcase their work in our annual calendar,” said Melissa Scallan, DMR public affairs director.

Photos should show an aspect of marine resources available on the Coast, she said. That includes recreational and commercial fishing, wetlands, marine plant and animal life, marsh areas, boating and Mississippi seafood. The seafood can be either freshly caught or cooked, Scallan said. For a list of wetlands in the Coastal Preserves Program, go to the DMR website.

Photos should be 300 dpi and 3938-by-3044 pixels. Both amateurs and professionals are welcome to enter, she said.

Mail entries to Melissa.scallan@dmr.ms.gov by 5 p.m. Oct. 3 along with the photographer’s name, phone number and a description of the photo and where it was taken. Winning photos will be included in the 2017 DMR calendar.

All entries will become the property of MDMR and may be used in other promotions with credit given to the photographer.
