Gulfport police have arrested a second man they believe was involved in the April shooting death of a Gulfport man.

J’Var Pope, 24, was arrested Saturday on a charge of murder, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of armed robbery in the death of 54-year-old Mitchell Weathersby.

Weathersby was one of three men shot April 6 in the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Louisiana Avenue in Gulfport.

Robert Hart, 23, was arrested in June in the shootings, police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said. Hart was charged with murder and two counts of armed robbery and two counts of aggravated assault.

Pope’s bond was set at $5 million.

Police said Pope was a person of interest and they have been searching for him since June.
