A missing Jackson County 6-year-old child was found safe in Vancleave after an extensive search, officials said.
The child was reported missing by her father about 2 a.m. Friday morning. After an extensive search by several agencies, the child was found at her grandfather’s house in Vancleave. The grandfather had picked up the child earlier from her father’s house.
The father told investigators he forgot his father was getting the child, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy John Ledbetter said.
No charges have been filed at this time. However, the investigation remains open, and Jackson County deputies have referred the case to the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Ledbetter said.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team, Gulf Coast Search and Rescue, Ft. Bayou Fire Department, Gulf Park Estates/St. Andrews Fire Department, Central Jackson County Fire Department, Harrison County Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance Service assisted with the search.
