Summertime fun includes cookies, coloring and chess
Free and entertaining activities for children, teens and adults can be found in South Mississippi’s public libraries and centers throughout the summer. But this week features coloring classes, music and line dancing.
Monday through Friday at the Pascagoula Public Library, chess lessons will be provided by John Hoch from 10 a.m. to noon., and light snacks will be provided. From 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the St. Martin Public Library, a stamp collecting workshop will be held for children and teens. Participants will take quizzes, play games and become stamp detectives.
A teen cookies and coloring event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Ocean Springs Municipal Library. Attendees can enjoy cookies and milk while coloring mandalas, anime, superheroes, geometric patterns, inspirational quotes and more. Coloring pages, books and supplies will be provided. Teens may bring their own, as well, and music is encouraged, but don’t forget your headphones. Also on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Pascagoula Public Library, a Keep Calm and Color event will be held for adults. Relaxing music, coloring pages and supplies provided.
Tuesday at the Bay St. Louis-Hancock County Library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., the Kreative Kids Art Kamp will show children healthy choices for their meals. The Pass Christian Public Library and Nancy Crowe from the Hijinks Puppetry will host a two-part paper mache workshop for the youth from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Attendees will also create a puppet. At the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Biloxi, the Kroc Kid’s class will feature music and art from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Ericka Nicholson will offer line dancing at the Pascagoula Public Library from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday for all ages. The genres of music will vary, and the class is for beginners and advanced attendees. At the Amour Danzar Ballroom in Gulfport, the Friday Night Dinner Dance will take place at 7:30 p.m. The cost for the dinner is $6 and the dance is $10.
Whether you want to put on your dancing shoes, tap into your artsy side or learn how to practice healthier eating habits, there is plenty to do this week.
