'Raiders!' doc will hit Beau Rivage in August
A documentary about three kids on the Gulf Coast making a shot-for-shot remake of an 1980s classic will make its way to South Mississippi in August.
“Raiders! The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made” will be at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino for one night on Friday, August 26 at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the film are $10 and are available at Ticketmaster.com.
Eric Zala, Chris Strompolos and Jayson Lamb were 11 when they started making their remake in 1981. They worked on the film for seven years, completing all of it except for a shot where Indiana Jones fights the Nazis on an airfield. Jeremy Coon's documentary tells the tale of Strompolos and Zala, as adults a quarter-century later, assembling a crew and filming the scene in Vancleave in 2014.
“These kids devoted their entire childhood to something seemingly impossible by remaking one of the best and most well known action blockbusters of all time,” Coon said. “This is the ultimate underdog story and it’s amazing that they had the resilience to actually complete it, even if it took 35 years to do it.”
The documentary was distributed by Drafthouse Films out of Austin. It was released in theaters and on pay-for-view platforms June 17.
Strompolos and Zala are expected to attend the Biloxi screening.
