Coast Electric warns about meter reader impersonator
Coast Electric Power Association officials warned its members Tuesday to be aware of someone claiming to work for the company.
Vice President of Marketing Ron Barnes said the utility company received word from a Harrison County customer that someone was knocking on doors Tuesday claiming to be a meter reader for Coast Electric.
The incident happened on JP Ladner Road. The person posing as a contractor was driving a van.
Barnes said members should be alert and should not allow anyone claiming to be a meter reader access to their home or property.
He said Coast Electric employees do not need to enter a home except by prior appointment. He said employees will be in clearly marked vehicles, wearing clothing with a company logo, and able to produce an identification badge upon request.
Report suspicious activities first to local law enforcement by calling 911 and then to 1-877-769-2372 to report the incident to Coast Electric.
