House committee passes Coast insurance bill

The House Insurance Committee on Wednesday passed a bill that would provide Coast homeowners clear premium reductions – set by insurance companies -- if they build or renovate their homes to high standards, and hopefully stir some competition among the companies.

“It’s a step,” said Rep. Scott DeLano, R-Biloxi, author of the bill, which now moves to the full House. Coast lawmakers including DeLano have pushed for years for programs or law changes to help the Coast’s post-Katrina insurance crisis.
