JACKSON COUNTY - Steven Ray Milam, 46, has been identified as the Texas attempted murder suspect who led authorities on a high-speed chase this morning before Sheriff Mike Byrd shot out a tire on his vehicle, resulting in his capture.
Milam, known as the 'Handsome Guy Bandit,' was westbound on Interstate 10 in a red BMW when a Jackson County sheriff's deputy tried to pull him over around 10 a.m. today and he fled.
Sheriff's deputies deployed spike strips to try to stop Milam, but he managed to drive around them three different times.
Byrd was traveling at a speed of about 85 mph when he pulled out his gun and shot out the right rear tire on Milam's vehicle. Milam pulled over at that point, Byrd said, and he and other officers pulled him out of the car.

Afterwards, Milam was taken to Singing River Hospital as a precaution because he vomited shortly after he was taken into custody
When Byrd shot out the tire, he said sheriff's deputies already had closed a portion of the interstate to other motorists. He said he knew he had to stop Milam because authorities had run a check on Milam's license plate and knew he was wanted in the killing of a police officer.
In addition to the Texas charge of willful killing of a public official, Milam was wanted in connection with 12 bank robberies.
