Juveniles take over section of Juvenile Detention Center (updated 2:15 p.m.)

BILOXI – Two juveniles who got out of their holding cells and into a hallway caused a ruckus at the Harrison County Juvenile Detention Center on McElroy Street in Biloxi today.

Sgt. Jackie Rhodes, spokesperson for the Biloxi Police Department, said the incident began around 9 a.m. and ended a short time later with no injuries.

A psychologist who was at the center speaking to a resident called the Biloxi Police when he heard the commotion, said Tony Best with Mississippi Security Police. The company manages the juvenile facility. Best said the Biloxi Police assisted MSP at the scene.

The two male juveniles were running in the hall and throwing trays. “It caused some concern,” Best said, but there was no danger of escape.

A nurse at the center stayed locked behind doors, which Best said is policy until the juveniles are returned to their cells. “There was never any hostage,” he said.
