Stevens denied stay of execution

PARCHMAN (AP) - The U.S. Supreme Court has denied a stay of execution for Mississippi inmate Benny Joe Stevens.

He was sentenced to death in 1999 for the deaths of four people, including two children, at a mobile home in rural Marion County.

The execution is scheduled for 6 p.m.

"The United States Supreme Court has just denied the stay for Benny Joe Stevens and, therefore, the execution will go forward," said state Attorney General Jim Hood. "Our prayers are with the victim's family and the defendant's family."
