Cleanup nearly complete after truck spill

BILOXI - Crews this morning have nearly completed the cleanup of the parking lot at Love's Truck Stop after a chemical leak there shortly before 2 a.m., authorities said.The driver of an Acme Trucking Co. 18-wheeler noticed a leak at his rig in the rear parking lot of the Cedar Lake Road truck stop and called 911, said Earl Etheridge, on-site coordinator for Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.The truck, traveling from Harvey, La., to Theodore, Ala., was carrying three 500-gallon containers of acetic anhydride blend, a flammable acid, he said. One of the container valves was leaking.The Biloxi fire and police departments responded along with MDEQ. United States Environmental Services is cleaning the spill.Etheridge said about 400 gallons were recovered, while about 100 gallons were lost on the ground.
