Mayor George Schloegel will give his first State of the City address on Tuesday at the new Lyman Community Center on U.S. 49.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the event is open to the public. Parts of the annual speech will focus on Gulfport's recovery from the global economic crisis and the city's continuing recovery from Hurricane Katrina.
Schloegel will speak about the city's financial situation, but he also will discuss the actions City Hall has taken in recent months to help cut the budget deficit in half, and he will detail a plan that could erase the deficit entirely by year's end.
