Emergency management officials report Mississippi 614 is closed today at the Escatawpa River bridge because of flooding and a phone line has been set up for residents wanting to keep up with river stages.
The highway is impassable because of water, and all lanes are closed. That section, near the Alabama state lane, may be closed until 7:30 a.m. Monday, according to a traffic alert.
Jackson County Emergency Management Director Donald Langham said the river stage phone line is 769-6508. Information will be kept updated on the Pascagoula River and Escatawpa River.
“The water continues to rise all along the Escatawpa River and down in the Franklin Creek area,” Langham said.

Residents of that area need to take precautions as the water continues to rise along the river and its tributaries.
“People do not need to be out sightseeing in these flooded areas, as that pushes more waters into the homes,” Langham said.
The Mobile Water District is lowering a flood gate on Big Creek Lake as needed.
The flood gate was open at 10 feet since Saturday and is being dropped to 8 feet this afternoon as needed, he said.
