GULFPORT - The secretary of Homeland Security said Friday she was surprised by the widespread damage caused by Hurricane Katrina and said her office will do everything it can to speed up the recovery in South Mississippi.
Janet Napolitano took a helicopter tour with Gov. Haley Barbour and MEMA Director Mike Womack to see the damage firsthand.
After the tour, Napolitano and Barbour spoke briefly with reporters and said they would work together to "break though the bottleneck" and get projects started.
