Victim in train fatality trying to cross tracks, police say

Ocean Springs police said a man who was hit and killed by a CSX train Tuesday morning was trying to get across the railroad tracks before it slammed into him at the Hanley Road crossing.

"He was alone, and there doesn't appear to be any foul play," Ocean Springs Police Capt. Terry Harris said Wednesday. "It doesn't appear to be suicide, just a misjudgment. He didn't make it across the tracks as fast as he thought he could."

Ronald Brian Lawrence, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1 a.m. accident Tuesday morning. The Sun Herald updates this story in Thursday's edition.
