Preliminary hearing scheduled for suspects in gas station murder in Moss Point

A preliminary hearing set for Tuesday for four teens accused in the Oct. 23 slaying of a Hattiesburg man has been continued, a Moss Point Municipal Court employee said today.

However, the aunt of one of the accused, Melody Jones, is scheduled to have her preliminary hearing at 8 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of accessory after the fact to capital murder. Jones was arrested after she allegedly learned what had happened from her nephew, also one of the accused, and told him not to worry about it.

Darwin Wells, 15, Terry Hye Jr., 15, Alonzo Kelly, 17, and Telvin James Benjamin, 14, all of Moss Point, are charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting death of Michael David Porter. Porter and his wife had stopped at the Conoco gas station off Mississippi 63 to get directions to their grandson's football game at Pascagoula's War Memorial Stadium when he was allegedly jumped by the suspects and shot.

Wells is the accused triggerman. Hye is Jones' nephew.
