Gautier Police hunt suspect in armed robberies, carjacking

Gautier police are asking for help to find a suspect in two armed robberies in the last week.

According to a release, the same man may be responsible for both robberies, the first of which occurred Friday about 10 p.m. at the Quality Coin Laundry on Gautier Vancleave Road.

In that case, police said, the victim was outside the laundry when the suspect came up from behind with a knife and stole the woman’s purse before leaving the area in the victim’s car. The vehicle, police said, later was found abandoned in north Gautier.

The other robbery occurred around 4 a.m. Wednesday outside the Watering Hole Saloon on Gautier Vancleave Road. The victim told authorities that she saw the suspect in the backseat of her car before he jumped out and struggled with her until he was able to grab her purse and run away on foot.

The suspect, believed to be the same person in both cases, is a black man, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and 140 pounds with a light to medium complexion.

Anyone with information should call the Gautier Police Department at 497-2486.
