More heavy rain, flooding possible for MS Coast soon. Here’s when, what all to expect
It’s been a damp start to the workweek on the Mississippi Gulf Coast — and more heavy rain and flooding are predicted toward the end of the week, according to weather experts.
Meteorologists are keeping their eyes on a “low-risk area” in the Gulf which could develop between July 19 and 21, AccuWeather experts said in a July 13 email.
Here’s what to know about the forecast.
What’s causing the rain in South MS?
According to AccuWeather experts, the rain is being caused by a combination of low wind shear in the northeastern Gulf and warmer-than-average sea-surface temperatures.
The sea surface temperature is about two to four degrees Fahrenheit warmer than normal for this time of year, experts said.
“Depending on the organization and intensity of the storm, heavy rain could also move northward into other Southeastern states,” said AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva.
