Each summer, many fans of the franchise eagerly await one limited menu item — the watermelon shake. For some fans, it’s not truly summer until the creamy, fruity beverage appears on the menu of their local Cook Out
So, when will you be able to order it on their menu? Here’s what we know.
What is the watermelon shake?
The watermelon milkshake is a seasonal beverage offered alongside Cook Out’s more than 50 milkshake flavors.
Many copy-cat recipes include the following ingredients:
- Cubed watermelon
- Vanilla ice cream (or milk)
- Sugar (if using milk)
When will it be available at Cook Out?
Cook Out’s famed watermelon milkshake is only available during summer.
Typically, the seasonal shake is available July through August and only while supplies last.
The franchise traditionally posts on social media announcing when the milkshakes are available for order.
“Our Watermelon Shake is back — made with fresh watermelon, this southern favorite is here for July & August only (while supplies last),” Cook Out announced July 1, 2025, in an Instagram post.

Cook Out milkshake flavors range from fresh fruits to candy and desserts. Here are a few unique flavors listed on the menu:
- Banana Pineapple
- Cappuccino
- Strawberry Cheesecake
- Heath Toffee
- Orange Push-up
- Oreo Mint
- Peach Cobbler
- Snickers
- Eggnog (in December)

Mississippi’s newest Cook Out opened June 23 in Gulfport, the Sun Herald reported. This is the franchise’s first location on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
