MS folks love to grill this food the most — and it’s not burgers or hot dogs, new ranking says

Summer is heating up — and so are grills across the country.

Outdoor cooking is one of Americans’ favorite warm-weather traditions, with about 70% of U.S. households owning a grill or smoker, according to analysts at Innerbody, an online health and anatomy resource.

But what people throw on the grill isn’t the same everywhere. A June 15 study by Innerbody found that what people like to grill varies based on region and state.

So, what are Mississippians most likely to fire up this summer? Here’s what the study found.

What do Mississippians love to grill?

There’s no question if Mississippians love to grill — the state ranked 19th-most enthusiastic about grilling this summer, according to the Innerbody study.

But what Mississippians most like to grill does stands out. While burgers are the top ranked grilled food across the country, chicken wings reign supreme in Mississippi, the study found.

“Wings proved to be the perfect food for gatherings: inexpensive, shareable, and easy to eat while watching a game,” analysts said.

Chicken wings were the favorite food to grill across much of the South, the Innerbody study found. Here are the states where it also ranked as the top food to grill:

How did Innerbody conduct study?

Innerbody analysts compared Google Trends search data from the past year across all 50 states and Washington, D.C. from the to learn which foods are the most popular for grilling in each state, according to the study.
