Two killed, two injured in separate crashes on South Mississippi highways

Two people were killed and two were hospitalized in separate South Mississippi crashes on Wednesday, the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.

In Stone County at about 3 p.m., 82-year-old Dean Rominger of Wiggins was killed and his passenger, 30-year-old Dewayna Brown of Wiggins, was injured when the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado they were in collided on Highway 26 with a 2000 Peterbilt. Rominger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, 50-year-old John Innabnit of Wilmer, Alabama, was not injured.

At about 6 p.m. in Pearl River County, 46-year-old Jonathan Helmers of Slidell, was killed when the 2015 Kia Soul he was driving collided with a 2017 Nissan Rogue driven by Kimberly Crawford, 57, of Carriere, in a head-on crash on Highway 43. Helmers was pronounced dead at the scene and Crawford was taken to a hospital with injuries.

Both crashes remain under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
