Memorial Day weekend is here, ushering in the unofficial start to summer.

In observance of the holiday, which falls on Monday, May 25 this year, government offices, post offices, schools and banks will be closed.

On certain holidays in Mississippi, state law mandates the closure of package stores, but Memorial Day is not one of them.

Here’s what to know about buying alcohol in the Magnolia State over the holiday weekend.

Will package stores be open on Memorial Day?

Yes. Because state law doesn’t mandate the closure of package stores on Memorial Day, most places along the Mississippi Coast will remain open.

However, package stores are closed on Sundays in Mississippi.

So, if you’re looking to stock up for the holiday, plan on making a trip on Friday or Saturday.

Which holidays are MS package stores closed on?

State law requires all package stores to close on Christmas Day, but some municipalities enforce closures on other holidays, including Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.
