Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May each year, honoring the men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military.

Several places, including government offices, post offices, schools and banks close for the holiday, but most major retail stores remain open.

No matter how you’re honoring the holiday, it’s important to plan ahead and know which retail stores will be open and closed.

Here are the major grocery chains that will be open and closed on Memorial Day in Mississippi.

Which stores are open on Memorial Day?

  • Target: All stores are open normal hours on Memorial Day.
  • Walmart: All stores are open normal hours on Memorial Day.
  • Kroger: All stores are open on Memorial Day, according to a banner on the retailer’s website.
  • Whole Foods: Certain Whole Foods stores will be open limited hours on Memorial Day, according to the chain. There is no indication that the Whole Foods in Jackson will have limited hours, according to the store’s webpage.
  • Aldi: Aldi stores will be open limited hours on Memorial Day, according to the chain’s website. Check your local store’s webpage to see hours; most stores on the Coast are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Costco: All warehouses will be closed on Memorial Day. The chain also closes all locations for New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, according to its website. There is one Costco location in Mississippi near Jackson
