As President Donald Trump’s approval rating falls to a record low nationwide, Mississippi voters still view the president more favorably than unfavorably — by a slim margin.

Fifty-eight percent of U.S. voters showed approval of Trump, while 37% of voters showed disapproval, according to a May 9 Civiqs poll. Five percent of voters said they neither approved nor disapproved.

The president’s national approval rating dropped by two percentage points since Jan. 1, the poll found. That decline is mirrored in Mississippi, a historically red state, where approval ratings have also dipped two points statewide since the start of the year, per the poll.

The survey of more than 103,300 U.S. adults was conducted between Jan. 20, 2025 and May 9, 2026, researchers said.

Here’s what voters in Mississippi think of Trump’s second term.

Do people in MS approve or disapprove of Trump?

Mississippi voters are closely divided when it comes to their approval of Trump. While 48% of voters view the president favorably, 47% of voters are unfavorable of him, according to the Civiqs poll.

Factors such as age, education and gender play a significant role in whether Mississippi voters approve or disapprove of Trump, the poll found.

Approval rating by age

While Mississippi voters younger than 50 are more likely to disapprove of the president, voters ages 50 and up are more likely to approve, the data shows:

  • 18-34 years of age: 31% approve, 60% disapprove
  • 35-49: 36% approve, 54% disapprove
  • 50-64: 51% approve, 45% disapprove
  • 65+: 55% approve, 41% disapprove

Approval rating by education

In Mississippi, voters who aren’t college graduates are more likely to approve of Trump, while voters who are college graduates and postgraduates are more likely to disapprove, the poll found:

  • Non-college graduates: 49% approve, 45% disapprove
  • College graduate: 46% approve, 49% disapprove Postgraduate: 39% approve, 57% disapprove

Approval rating by gender

The poll also found that Mississippi voters who identify as men are more likely to approve of the president, while voters who identify as women are more likely to disapprove:

  • Male: 53% approve, 41% disapprove
  • Female: 43% approve, 52% disapprove
