Cottage cheese recalled from MS Walmart stores over health risks. See if you bought any
Three different types of cottage cheese tubs were pulled from Walmart shelves in Mississippi and 23 other states, posing significant health risks, the United States Food and Drug Administration said in a Feb. 25 news release.
Saputo Cheese USA Inc., a global dairy producer, voluntarily recalled certain cottage cheese tubs after learning that some could have unpasteurized liquid dairy ingredients, the company said in a Feb. 24 statement.
The company learned about the pasteurization issues during a troubleshooting exercise with the California Department of Food and Agriculture, according to the statement.
No illnesses or hospitalizations associated with the recall have been reported as of Feb. 24, the FDA said in a release.
Here’s what to know about the recall in Mississippi.
What happens if you consume something that’s not fully pasteurized?
Raw milk and other unpasteurized products can pose serious health risks — including Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Campylobacter — because of the germs these products contain, according to the FDA.
People with weakened immune systems, children, older adults and pregnant women are especially susceptible, the agency said.
