Few foods are as communal — or beloved in the South — as a platter of chicken wings, and a recent Southern Living ranking names two Mississippi spots among the region’s best for juicy, tangy bites.
“In the South, chicken wings are more than just food — they’re an essential part of weddings, tailgates, cookouts, and even funerals,” food and lifestyle expert Matt Moore said in Southern Living.
Moore visited dive bars, food trucks, pizza shops, barbecue joints and more across the South to come up with the ranking, which includes restaurants known for both innovation and tradition, he said.
“A combination of personal experience, trusted recommendations, and award recognition helped form this list,” Moore said.
Here are the best chicken wing spots in Mississippi and the South, according to Southern Living.
The Camp Restaurant in Natchez
The Camp Restaurant in Natchez — about a 200-mile drive northwest from Gulfport — stood out for its special sauce, called the Camp Sauce, according to Moore.
“The sauce is tongue-pinching sour but immediately melds into a complex blend of heat, tang and umami,” Moore said.
Wings at the restaurant are ordered by the dozen or half-dozen and come smoked or fried, according to the restaurant’s menu. Wing flavors include hot or mild buffalo, hot or mild Asian, barbeque and lemon pepper dry rub.

Fairley’s Wings & More in Hattiesburg
Located about a 74-mile drive northwest from Biloxi, Fairley’s Wings & More in Hattiesburg serves unique flavor combinations like Cajun Ranch, Moore said.
Some popular wing choices include the Cajun honey, Cajun ranch and lemon pepper honey, according to Yelp reviews.
