Walmart, Aldi, Costco & more: Here are the MS grocery stores open, closed on Thanksgiving

The meal prepping and shopping that goes into the Thanksgiving holiday is nearing its end as the food-heavy holiday draws near.

Despite the hours you spend laboring over the perfect turkey, side dish or dessert, it’s still possible to miss picking up a crucial ingredient at the store.

But as federal and state offices, banks and most stores close on the holiday, which falls on Thursday, Nov. 27 this year, it can get tricky to find an open last-minute shopping option.

Here are the major grocery retailers open and closed on the holiday in Mississippi so you can avoid adding more stress to your plate.

Which grocery stores are closed for Thanksgiving?

• Walmart: The world’s largest retailer will be closed on Thanksgiving. The chain has closed its doors for Thanksgiving and Christmas every year since 2020, NBC News reported.
• Aldi: Aldi stores will close on Thanksgiving, according to the company’s website. The retailer closes its stores on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Easter Sunday.
• Target: Target stores will close on Thanksgiving, but shopping can still be done online and scheduled for pickup or delivery after the holiday, according to the company’s website.
• Costco: Costco warehouses in the U.S. will close on Thanksgiving, one of seven days a year the company closes its stores. There is one Costco location in Mississippi near Jackson.

Which grocery stores are open on Thanksgiving?

• Kroger: Kroger stores will be open until 4 p.m., according to the company’s holiday hours posted on their website. There are 29 Kroger stores across 23 cities in Mississippi, according to the company’s website. You can find the store location nearest to you using the store locator on their website.
• Whole Foods: Most Whole Foods stores will be open on Thanksgiving with modified hours, according to the company’s website. The Whole Foods in Jackson will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
