1. Vicksburg National Military Park
One of Mississippi’s most famous attractions, Vicksburg National Military Park explores the role the city and state played throughout the Civil War. The 1,800 acre park includes more than 1,400 monuments, tablets and markers honoring soldiers on both sides of the war, according to Visit Vicksburg.
The park also features several historic buildings, fortifications and more, according to the tourism site.

2. Mississippi Petrified Forest
One of two petrified forests in the eastern United States, the Mississippi Petrified Forest is a national natural landmark that features fossilized trees believed to be more than 36 million years old, according to Visit Mississippi.

3. Biloxi Beach
Part of the world’s largest man-made beach, Biloxi Beach — a white-sand beach — stretches across 26 miles of Coastal Mississippi, according to Visit Mississippi.

4. Mississippi Aquarium
The Mississippi Aquarium is a 5.8-acre complex showcasing both indoor and outdoor habitats from the Gulf Coast and beyond, according to the aquarium’s website.

5. Tishomingo State Park
Offering about 13 miles of nature trails, Tishomingo State Park displays the beauty of today’s natural landscape alongside the history of Paleo Indians who once walked the same trails as early as 7000 B.C., according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

6. Longwood Mansion
The Longwood Mansion is the “crown jewel” of Natchez’s historic homes, according to Visit Natchez. It is the largest octagonal house in the country and has an onion-shaped dome at the top of its six floors, according to Visit Mississippi.

7. Elvis Presley’s Birthplace
Learn about the beginnings of the “King of Rock” at his birthplace in Tupelo. At Elvis Presley’s birthplace, visitors can tour his childhood home, church and visit the Elvis Presley museum, according to the website.
