Slang terminology evolves fast, especially in an era of technological connectivity, according to experts. A recent study by Unscramblerer.com, a word game app, reveals the top searched slang terms in Mississippi and across the country.

“Popular slang in 2025 continues to be heavily influenced by TikTok, Instagram, gaming, streaming, Gen Z and Alpha online communities,” a spokesperson for Unscramblerer.com said in an Oct. 2 email to McClatchy News.

These are the most Google searched slang terms in Mississippi and their meanings, according to the study.

These are Mississippi’s top five most Google searched slang words and their meanings, according to Unscramblerer.com.

1. “6-7”

Meaning: There isn’t a literal definition for the term six seven. The term came from the song “Doot Doot (6 7)” by rapper Skrilla and is mostly used as an interjection, according to Merriam-Webster.

2. “Chopped”

Meaning: This is a slang term for something or someone that is undesirable or unattractive. According to Merriam-Webster, the slang use of the word likely has roots in African American English.

3. “Sigma”

Meaning: The slang term “sigma” refers to a person who is independent, self-reliant and who “operates outside traditional social hierarchies.” The term is based on the phrase sigma male, and went viral after a 2022 meme, according to Merriam-Webster.

4. “Glazing”

Meaning: A slang term used to describe someone who is excessively and possibly insincerely flattering another person. “Glazing” started being used as a “figurative extension” of the word glaze in the early 2020s, according to Merriam-Webster.

5. “Sendy”

Meaning: “Sendy” is a slang term that signifies committing to something and going all in for it. It can also be used as a synonym for confidence. According to Merriam-Webster, the term came from snowboarding lingo.

How did word game app find most searched slang words?

Experts at Unscramblerer.com analyzed Google Trends data from January through September to find the top searched slang words, according to the study. The number of searches was determined using Ahrefs, a data platform for SEO, digital and content marketing.

Note: This story excludes some slang words mentioned in the study that are vulgar or derogatory.
