This is the best hospital in MS, US New & World report says. Here’s why
More than 100 Mississippi hospitals were evaluated, but only one met U.S. News’ standards to be recognized as a best regional hospital, according to the recent ranking.
Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, a general medical and surgical facility in Jackson, was the only hospital in the state to be recognized as a best regional hospital, according to U.S. News & World Report’s ranking.
The facility was rated high performing in 15 adult procedures and conditions, and had a patient experience score of three stars, according to the ranking.
There were three other hospitals in the Jackson area that were rated high performing in at least one procedure or condition, according to the ranking. Here they are:
- Merit Health River Oaks in Flowood
- St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson
- University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson
What defines a best regional hospital?
The following things define a best regional hospital, according to U.S. News & World Report:
- Offers a full range of general medical and surgical services
- Earned eight or more ratings of high performing in the best hospital procedures and conditions
- Had at least five more “high performing” procedures and conditions than “evaluated” ratings across procedures and conditions measured
