This is the only MS hospital that ranked among best in nation, US News & World Report says

The 2025–26 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals evaluated 113 hospitals in Mississippi and only one met high U.S. News standards and is recognized as Best Regional Hospitals.

Mississippi Baptist Medical Center is a general medical and surgical facility in Jackson and was rated as “high performing” in 15 adult procedures and conditions

High performing specialties and procedures

Although Mississippi Baptist wasn’t nationally ranked in any of the major categories of specialties, prodcedures and conditions, it still did well in a few more focused areas.

These are the “high performing areas:

Cancer

  • Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma
  • Colon cancer surgery
  • Gynecological cancer surgery
  • Lung cancer surgery
  • Prostate cancer surgery

Cardiology, heart and vascular surgery

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair
  • Heart attack
  • Heart arrhythmia
  • Aortic valve surgery
  • Heart bypass surgery
  • Heart failure
  • Pacemaker implantation
  • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)

Diabetes

  • Diabetic treatment

Gastroenterology and GI surgery

  • Colon cancer surgery

Nephrology

  • Kidney failure

Neurology and neurosurgery

  • Back surgery (spinal fusion)
  • Stroke

Obstetrics and gynecology

  • Gynecological cancer surgery
  • Maternity care (uncomplicated pregnancy)

Orthopedics

  • Hip fracture
  • Back surgery (spinal fusion)

Pulmonary and lung surgery

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Lung cancer surgery
  • Pneumonia

Urology

  • Prostate cancer surgery

Criteria for best hospitals

To be named Best Regional Hospital, a facility needs to:

  • Earn at least eight High Performing ratings out of the 22 evaluated procedures and conditions
  • Have at least five more High Performing ratings than the total number of Evaluated ratings (the lowest rating tier) it received
  • Offers a full range of general medical and surgical services (as opposed to a specialty hospital)

To be considered for evaluation, a hospital has to meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • It was a teaching hospital
  • It was affiliated with a medical school
  • It had at least 200 beds set up and staffed
  • It had at least 100 beds and offered at least four out of eight advanced technologies associated with high-quality care, such as a PET/CT scanner and certain precision radiation therapies
