‘Line the streets.’ George County Sheriff’s Dept. plan for fallen officer’s procession
A funeral procession is being planned for fallen George County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jeremy Malone, the department said Wednesday.
The funeral for Malone, who was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop in George County on Jan. 4, will be held at Agricola Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday.
The sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post that following the funeral, a procession of law enforcement will accompany Malone’s casket to the gravesite. The procession will travel through Lucedale before going to the cemetery.
The department posted the route on Facebook in hopes people will “line the streets to pay their respects for our fallen hero, Deputy Jeremy Malone.”
Starting from Agricola Baptist Church, the procession plans to travel on Highway 613 all the way to Lucedale where it will then travel north on Mill Street, then west on Main Street before turning left onto Winter Street.
From Winter Street, the procession will turn onto Old Highway 63 South and travel on that until it reaches Highway 63. It will take Highway 63 until it reaches Cooks Corner Road and then proceed east on Cooks Corner Road until it returns to Highway 613.
The procession will then proceed along Highway 613 to the burial at Tanners Cemetery on Tanner Chapel Road.
“We would like to thank everyone for their outpouring love and outreach during this time. We have received a tremendous amount of support from many businesses, law enforcement agencies and citizens,” the department said in the Facebook post.
A visitation for Deputy Malone will also be held at Agricola Baptist Church on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
