Coroner identifies body found in Biloxi Back Bay near Hiller Park
A body was found floating in water in Biloxi on Tuesday, according to police.
Joshua Swoope, 25, of Biloxi, was found in the waters of the Back Bay near Hiller Park, Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said.
An 11-year-old child who regularly fishes with a net at the park spotted the body a little ways out in the water, Switzer told the Sun Herald.
In a press release, the Biloxi Police Department said a call came in on Tuesday around 6:19 p.m. saying that there appeared to be a person floating in the water in the 300 block of Hiller Drive.
Biloxi Patrol Officers, the Biloxi Fire Department and a Biloxi Rescue Boat responded, and recovered Swoope’s body from the water.
Authorities are still trying to determine where Swoope went into the water and his body has been sent to the crime lab for an autopsy. Switzer said Swoope didn’t have any obvious injuries and estimated he had been in the water for about 24 to 36 hours before he was found.
There doesn’t appear to be any sign of foul play, according to Switzer.
Swoope is understood to be homeless and was likely living in Hiller Park, Switzer said.
