A warm winter sun beat down as hundreds of people lined Highway 90 in Bay St. Louis and Waveland on Sunday for the Krewe of Nereids’ annual Mardi Gras parade.
The krewe rolled through town with Queen Doris leading the charge for the 55th time. The krewe is the Mississippi Coast’s oldest and is named for mythological sea nymphs called Nereids. The 50 Nereids, so the lore goes, are the female spirits of the sea and daughters of Doris and Nereus.
The krewe was joined by several dance groups and members of the Bay High Marching Band, among others.
