What’s open and closed around Christmas: Coast garbage pickup, utility offices, more

Several offices and services will be affected by the holiday. Here’s what to expect over the following week.

GARBAGE COLLECTION

There will be no interruptions in garbage collection. Service will run as scheduled for all of the Mississippi Coast. Most offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, through Monday Dec. 26.

Garbage, trash and recycling for Waste Pro customers will not run Thursday. For those who receive twice a week garbage collection, Thursday’s collection will be skipped. For recycling and those who receive once a week garbage collection, service will run a day behind for the remainder of the week.

GOVERNMENT OFFICES

All government offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 26.

In addition to Friday and Monday, the Jackson County landfill on Seaman Road and the animal shelter in Gautier will also be closed on Saturday, Dec. 24.

LIBRARIES

Hancock County Library Library System: Closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26.

Harrison County Library System: Closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26.

Jackson/George Regional Library System: Closes at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22; closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26. Branches will reopen Tuesday.

Long Beach Library: Closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26. The library will reopen at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Pearl River County Library System: Closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26.

TRANSPORTATION

Coast Transit Authority: There will be no bus service on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and Christmas, Dec. 25. Regular bus service will resume Monday, Dec. 26.

The CTA office will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, and reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27. For additional information, call 228-896-8080 or visit www.coasttransit.com.

UTILITIES

Closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26 (crews will be on call and dispatchers on duty for outages): West Jackson County Utilities, Harrison County Utility Authority, Mississippi Power Co., Gautier Utility District

Coast Electric Power Association will be closed Monday, Dec. 26, and Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Sparklight offices, billing and sales departments, will be closed on Friday, Dec. 23. Tech Support will continue to be available 24/7 at 877-692-2253.

OTHERS

Whispering Pines Golf Course at 18412 Hwy. 613, will be closed on Sunday, Dec.25. For more information and to set tee times, visit www.wpgolfcourse.com or call 228-588-6111.

All of Jackson County’s boat launches, piers, and public parks will be open the entire holiday weekend. The county’s lighted walking tracks, tennis courts, and basketball courts can be used until 10 p.m.
