Home sales on the Coast surpass rest of Mississippi in September. One county is on top.

A relatively slow summer may be heating up in one local real estate market.

September sales were up year over year (or from this time last year) in Hancock County, according to Redfin, a national real estate brokerage.

In September 2021, sales were down more than 7% in Hancock County. This year, September sales are higher than they have been since 2019. The rise comes after a summer that saw sales drop as low as 10% in July and 11% in August. One of the trendiest cities on the Coast, Bay St. Louis, is in Hancock County.

In Harrison County, sales have been down all year, since peaking in May at 8% year over year. September sales were down 11.8% from last year.

Jackson County sales have also plummeted since the start of summer, reaching its lowest point of the year at -25.6% year over year in August.

September has had some highlights. Home sales along the Coast were better than any other region for the week of Sept. 19. In Harrison, Jackson and Hancock counties, a total of 124 homes were sold.

The coastal counties outpaced Madison, Hinds and Scott counties, where only 80 homes were sold for the week of Sept. 19.
