Blake Shelton makes ‘soul-crushing’ decision after Coast teen sings his song on ‘The Voice’

A Mississippi Coast teen who has been a standout on Blake Shelton’s team on “The Voice” was eliminated in the Knockout rounds of the competition earlier this week, despite praise from judges.

Hailey Green, a 15-year-old high school football player from St. Martin, wowed the judges with her version of the “God’s Country,” Shelton’s own song.

During Green’s performance, Ariana Grande stood up in her chair and danced along. Judge Kelly Clarkson described the teen as a “baby Janis Joplin.”

Green went head-to-head against Libianca, who belted out a unique performance of “everything i wanted” by Billie Eilish. She also received a standing ovation from judges.

Grande, Clarkson and judge John Legend praised both contestants. In the end, Shelton sent Green home, describing the decision as “soul crushing.”

“I’ve literally lost years off my life trying to get through that vocal, and listening to you sing that — holy crap,” said Shelton after Green performed his song.”

The elimination comes just one week after Green won a battle round against Lana Scott, belting out “Girl” by Maren Morris.

Green had previously auditioned for The Voice in Season 19, but did not get any chair turns from the judges. Green said that she’s glad she didn’t get any chair turns the first time as it gave her a chance to improve to secure her spot this season.
