House passes bill that would honor fallen Biloxi police officer Robert McKeithen
A downtown post office may soon be named after a fallen Biloxi police officer who was killed in the line of duty in 2019.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed bill HR 3175, which designates the building at 135 Main Street as the Robert S. McKeithen Post Office.
McKeithen, a beloved husband, father and co-worker, was shot and killed outside the Biloxi Police Department in May 2019.
Rep. Steven Palazzo introduced the bill in May of this year.
“Officer Robert McKeithen’s end of watch was in Biloxi on May 5th, 2019, but his post office renaming will provide for a daily reminder of his dedication to his community and our respect for law enforcement,” Palazzo said on the House floor.
Darian Atkinson was indicted on murder charges in McKeithen’s death and could face the death penalty if convicted. Five others are accused of aiding Atkinson in his attempt to evade arrest following the shooting.
The bill was passed unanimously by the House and will be sent to the Senate.
