Is your photo in the new Department of Marine Resources calendar?

Sailboats, seagrass and sunsets on the water are among the scenes featured in the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources 2018 Marine Information Calendar, which is now available.

The calendars, which the agency offers free each year, are highlighted by photos chosen from a contest held earlier in the year.

“The response to our photo contest was great for the second year in a row,” said Melissa Scallan, Public Affairs director for MDMR. “We have many talented photographers in South Mississippi, and we are proud to feature their pictures of life on the Coast.”

Caroline Shaw’s picture of a Biloxi Cat Boat sailing between Deer Island and the Biloxi Maritime & Seafood Museum’s Schooner Pier in Biloxi is on the cover of the 2018 calendar. In addition, one photo is featured for each month: January, Laura Thompson; February, Brandi Fountain; March, Vernon Steele; April, Cindy Lamb; May, Darrin Stewart; June, Chris Markham; July, Jimmy Baker; August, Jane Anne Sawyer; September, Grace Schloegel; October, Tim Lawton; November, John Mitchell; December, Sandra Huynh.

The calendar includes tide data, sunrise and sunset times, moon phases, artificial reef coordinates, size and possession limits for fish, boating safety requirements and Mississippi saltwater fish records.

The calendars will be available at the following locations while supplies last. Calendars also will be distributed to Coast bait shops.
